Introduction to Microboards Workshop – Gold Coast QLD
January 6 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm AESTA$100.00
Do you wonder what will happen to your child with a disability when you can no longer support them?
A microboard is a network of trusted people who love and freely support a person with a disability and make sure that paid supports are working well, even when parents are no longer around. This network has a formalised legal structure known as an incorporated association.
In this session we will provide you with an introduction on:
what a microboard is
why you might want to set one up
how they help people with disability to live a good life even without parents
how to gather people to form your microboard
what kinds of activities they can do
the differences between a circle of support and a microboard
the important underlying values and beliefs that drive how microboards act
You will hear stories of people who have set up a microboard around their child with a disability and learn about the services that Microboards Australia offers.
Microboards Australia is the only organisation in Australia that is endorsed by Vela Microboards to support microboard development. Vela Microboards is the organisation that founded Microboards over 30 years ago in Canada.
Sheree Henley is a Director of Microboards Australia and will be presenting at this session. Sheree is the mother of Isaac, a young man with complex disabilities who has a microboard called Isaac’s Band of Brothers & Sisters Inc The Band as it is otherwise known won an ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Award for Innovation in Inclusion.
Sheree loves the incredible power of a group of loving friends working under a formalised structure supporting a person with a disability to live a great life independent of parents.
